Japan Pledges More Investments to Cambodia, Invites Hun Manet

PHNOM PENH:The Japanese Government has pledged to Prime Minister Hun Sen that more investments will come to the Kingdom of Cambodia. This was revealed during the visitation of Japanese Ambassador Mikami Masahiro to Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday morning. Apart from the bringing the news of more Japanese investments to the kingdom, the Japanese government has also invited the son of the Prime Minister, Hun Manet to visit their country. The Japanese Ambassador has visited Prime Minister Hun at his house in Takhmao City.

The Ambassador has informed Prime Minister Hun Sen that Toyota is preparing to set up a component factory in Cambodia, and other companies are also proposing to establish a natural gas and solar power plant in Cambodia.

Prime Minister’s personal assistant Eang Sophalleth, says the Ambassador of Japan informed the Prime Minister about the good cooperation between the Government of Japan and the Royal Government of Cambodia on the fight against Covid 19, including in the field of health, in which Japan provided 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Cambodia Sophallet also says that Japan’s invitation to Hun Manet is to strengthen the ties between the two nations.

The Ambassador also informed about the docking of the Japanese Navy Self-Defense Ship in Sihanoukville in the near future to celebrate the 30th anniversary of peacekeeping cooperation. At the same time, he has relayed Japan's support to promote Sihanoukville Port to become the core port of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In the field of regional cooperation, especially cooperation within the framework of ASEAN, Ambassador Mikami has informed the Prime Minister that Japan has provided some vehicles to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as some equipment, and Japan is ready to provide cooperation to support Cambodia on how to make Cambodia successful as the future chair of ASEAN.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen welcomed the intention of the Government of Japan to invite Hun Manet to pay an official visit to Japan and the landing of a naval self-defense ship in Cambodia. For the upcoming 30th anniversary of peacekeeping cooperation in 2022, the Prime Minister proposed to organize this anniversary to strengthen and expand cooperation between Cambodia and Japan in the field of defense.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has thanked the Government of Japan as well as the people of Japan for their assistance in providing Cambodia with vaccines and other assistance in assisting Cambodia in preventing and combating the pandemic. He also expressed gratitude for the provision of vehicles, equipment and cooperation, as well as support to ensure that Cambodia is successful in leading the ASEAN chairmanship in the future.
